CITA - Centre for Information Technology and Architecture

CITA is an internationally oriented multi-PI research centre investigating the relationships between architecture, computation, sustainability, materials and emerging technologies. 

CITA develops new architectural methods that connect advanced technologies to fabrication and resource systems to critically ask how environmental and societal implications are impacted technological innovation.  This intersection is explored through foundational research undertaken through design led experimentation in which computational models, material experiments, prototypes, demonstrators and built works operate as instruments of inquiry. 

Current research spans artificial intelligence, advanced modelling and robotic fabrication alongside biogenic and reclaimed materials, adaptive construction and new approaches to maintenance, repair and reuse. Through this we examine how technological engagement with material heterogeneity, resource geographies and changing environmental conditions can open and drive new forms of design and spatial identity.

Our research incorporates interdisciplinary and international collaboration across architecture, computer science, engineering and material science. Sustained inter-sector partnerships with leading architectural practice and industry allow us to connect fundamental research with application and innovation.
